More Fiber-Cement Siding Competition

We are seeing more cement lapped siding going on new homes. Are all of the homes using HardiPlank?
No, not at all. James Hardi has strong competition now. Cemplank, manufactured by F.C.P., Inc., is an attractive and aesthetically pleasing fiber-cement plank siding competitor. Cemplank markets their product with the following description: The deep cedar-grain texture provides a genuine wood appearance with premium fiber-cement performance.
Four excellent textures provide great design flexibility:

The unique fiber-cement formulation resists termites, will not rot or deteriorate, and provides long-term durability and strength. Cemplank can be painted or stained in any color to suit the homeowner's choice and enhance the beauty of the siding. Cemplank provides outstanding weatherability with low maintenance and has a limited lifetime warranty. FCP is recognized nationally as one of the leaders in the field.

ABTCO Fiber Cement Siding is a division of Louisiana-Pacific. You may have a bad taste for L-P but before you jump to any conclusions, their fiber-cement siding is without a doubt the most realistic cement siding in the Atlanta area. It is very hard to tell it apart from the hardboard siding.
The siding has a Class 1 Fire Rating which means the siding does not burn and produces virtually no smoke offering increased safety and in some areas lower insurance rates. It is also resistant to everything from weather to wood boring insects. The siding is immune to UV rays which keeps the substrate from breaking down.

ABTCO’s method of pressing the substrate enhances the surface fidelity and yields superior wood grains and stucco finishes. The siding comes in Smooth Lap, Smooth Beaded Lap, Textured Beaded Lap, Cedar Lap, Cedar Panel-8”, Plain Panel and Stucco Panel finishes. Each product is offered primed or unprimed.

Eternit Siding is manufactured by Eternit Inc., a member of Eternit Group, the largest producer of fiber-cement building products in the world. Eternit Siding allows you the durability and performance of concrete without sacrificing the natural beauty of wood. This unique material provides high structural strength and good impact resistance. It is a lasting exterior material made to withstand extreme climate and weather conditions most wood products fail. For further information contact Eternit, PO Box 679, Blandon, PA 19510 or 1-800-233-3155.

The DuraPress System is manufactured by Wolverine. The Wolverine Fiber Cement Siding doesn’t look exactly like wood, it looks better. It has the same exact grain and textured feel of wood, taking its shape directly from real redwood and cedar. But the siding outlasts wood and like most fiber cement siding, it carries a 50 year limited warranty.
